Why I Built Inorda

‘It started with my own business’

I'm an accountant, and like many self-employed people, I wasn't struggling to find work—I was struggling to see the bigger picture.

I wanted something that would show me my month at a glance.

A calendar that showed the work I already had booked, where I still had capacity, and what my income was likely to be.

I wanted to know what my month would look like if I filled every available appointment.

Because my fees vary depending on the work I do, I also wanted to know my average hourly rate and how much each new client would really contribute to my income.

Surprisingly, nothing existed that brought all of that together in one place.

So I started building it.

Then I realised something…

The more I built for myself, the more I realised these weren't just my problems.

Every week I sat with clients asking questions like...

"Can I afford to take next week off?"

"How much tax should I put aside from this payment?"

"If I buy this today, will I still have enough next month?"

"Can I book another holiday this year?"

I realised I wasn't building a diary.

I was building something that helped people and business’s make financial decisions with confidence.

Business and personal money are connected.

One thing became obvious.

For most self-employed people, business money and personal money aren't separate.

The money you earn through your business is the same money that pays your mortgage, buys the shopping, funds family life and pays for holidays.

Yet every app treated them as though they were completely independent.

I wanted to bring them together.

The tax question.

One question I was constantly asked as an accountant was...

"How much tax should I put away from this payment?"

It sounds simple, but for someone who's self-employed it isn't.

Every expense changes your tax position.

Every invoice changes your profit.

So I built a tax engine that continually monitors your projected net profit and calculates a recommended percentage to save from every payment you receive.

Instead of guessing, users always know how much to put aside as their business changes throughout the year.

Then it became much bigger.

As Inorda evolved, I realised the real problem wasn't accounting.

It was confidence…. having the information to make confident financial decisions.

People didn't need another budgeting app or accounting package.

They needed something that helped them answer life's everyday questions before making a decision.

Questions like...

  • Can I afford it?

  • Should I wait until payday?

  • Can I take a week off?

  • Will I have enough for Christmas?

  • What happens if I say yes?

That's why Inorda exists.

Not to tell people what they should do.

But to show them what will happen—so they can decide for themselves.
